Founded in Glashütte in 1927, Tutima takes its name from the Latin tutus, meaning safe or protected. In 1984 the Bundeswehr adopted its chronograph as the service watch for German military pilots, and the reference stayed in the NATO supply catalogue long after the movement that drove it went out of production. The manufactory returned to Glashütte in 2008 and builds its own calibers there now, among them the hand-wound 617 in the Patria, assembled from 171 parts around a three-quarter plate, its jewels set in screwed gold chatons.
